I'm currently testing Quantshare and try to import EOD data from a database engine called Taipan (german data provider).
In most cases the COM-interface that comes with the database engine can be used to fetch the data into tools like Quantshare.
I understand that Quantshare doesn't support a COM interface at the moment, so I tried a second way using a Virtual Metastock-Database-Server
that also comes with the database engine. This method works fine for Amibroker, but Quantshare doesn't find any data in the specified folders.
Do you have experience in connecting a virtual database server and Quantshare or an idea how to fix this?
I would really appreciate your help, as QuantShare looks very promising to me.
here is a link to the description of the database engine (unfortunately only in german) -> https://www.lp-software.de/Produkte/TaiPanEndOfDay/Index/database.aspx
Please let me know if you need more details, maybe I can connect you to the support guys responsible for the database engine.
Update: I just talked to the guy from Lenz and Partner responsible for the EOD database engine.
He downloaded QuantShare and reproduced the situation. The problem is, that QuantShare is not responding to the database engine and that the connection cannot be established.
Yes I did, but unfortunately it doesn't work for the virtual metastock server.
With help of the support of Lenz & Partner, I found a way to write the data in metastock format to the hard drive so that QuantShare can access it. Nevertheless it would be great to connect the virtual server directly to QuantShare to avoid duplicate data storage.
The process with other platforms (e.g. amibroker) works as follows:
Setup:
1. In the Virtual Metastock Server I have to setup what catalogues (metastock folders) should be accessible by the third party platform.
2. In a second step I have to specify the program file of the third party platform (e.g. QuantShare.exe) and the related folder.
3. The Virtual Server creates a file with the following information and an icon linked to this file on the desktop.
Usage:
4. If I click on the icon the virtual server will be initialized and starts the third party platform (e.g. Quantshare) automatically.
5. For the specified third party platform, the data is now accessible in the folder %u201CC:\$$$MSDATA%u201D.
Physically the folder contains only empty subfolders (corresponding to the metastock folders selected in Step 1) but no files.
Unfortunately this approach doesn't work for QuantShare. Any idea how to fix that?
Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose.
