how to use the P123 feature

2011-02-25 06:23:08

I have a couple of P123 portfolio's that I would like to try to replicate in QS but I seem to be having a problem.
I have input my P123 credentials and it can logon to my P123 account and download ranks etc.
When I push the "load" button I can see in light grey text that it says it creates a default ranking system.

However, if I try and download any data for any item, I get the error that it can't create a default ranking system.

Can somebody tell me what/where it's trying to create ?

I'm also a bit confused about how this feature is meant to work. There's not much documentation assosciated with it, so if anyone has some info to pass on I would apparecaiet it.

I'm hoping I can back test /optimise various screeners and ranking systems with the hope of transferring them back to P123.

Hello Ivan,

- After you click on "Load", you will see all ranking systems developed under P123
- Select a ranking system then click on "Create Item"
- Now, select "P123" tab
- Select your ranking system, start/end dates then click on "Start Download"
- Ranks will be downloaded and stored under a custom database.

To see databases data, select Data -> Edit Databases

To access data using formula, type:
GetData("database name", "field name", LastData)

Click on CONTROL+SPACE when typing formula to display available functions/databases/fields.

thanks for the reply, yes, the steps you outlined is what I have been trying, but I still get the error "cannot create defult ranking system" pop up in a seperate window a couple of seconds after hitting the "Start Download" button

Could it be because it can't create the database for some reason ? (I'm guessing)

This sometimes occurs with some P123 accounts.
Try again two or three times and it should work.

Do you get this error even when downloading data for a ranking system (not factor or formula) ?

We will fix it in the next release.

I've tried to download anything and everything several times over the last 2 days.
I'm not able to download rank, factor or formula

Is there a log file or something Ican send to you ?

I'm having the same problem. Any updates on the status of this?

I've created an item from one of my ranking systems (which all show up in the RS tab when I hit load) and shortly after I hit the "Start Download" button in the P123 tab, I get the error message "cannot create default ranking system".

I looked for a custom database under Data -> Edit Databases and there is no database related to the P123 data. By any chance do I need to create the database before this will work?

Thanks for your help!

Hello George,

A "dummy" ranking system is normally automatically created.
It it is not, the you will get the "cannot create default ranking system" message.

To fix the problem: In your P123 account, create an empty new ranking system. The ranking system name should be "P123Plugin".

Thanks for the quick reply!

When you said that a "dummy" ranking system is normally created in P123, I immediately knew what the problem was! I was at my limit in P123 for the number of ranking systems allowed so it could not create a new one. Therefore, what I did was to simply delete one of my ranking systems in P123 and retried the download. It then worked fine!

Thanks again,
