Toronto Stock Exchange - historical data

The Toronto Stock Exchange is the main stock exchange in Canada. This item lets you download historical end-of-day data for companies listed in this exchange. Data for 1444 symbols are downloaded, parsed and inserted into your quote database. The data is grouped by month and thus can be downloaded very quickly (much faster than if you were using a downloader that gets data by symbol, example: the yahoo downloader) and used for example for screening or backtesting purposes. As with some other downloaders I have previously uploaded on QuantShare, this item does not download the most recent quotes. It only gets data until the end of the previous month. As an example: If I ran the downloader today (20 November 2009), the last date data for all symbols would be the 30 October 2009.

The symbols list along with the company title data can be added to your account using the following list of symbols item: Toronto Stock Exchange.

You can use the yahoo downloader to get the most recent quotes: Yahoo EOD historical quotes, you should also download the following list of symbols: Canada Stock Market Symbols

I should also mention that the data for some companies goes back to 1995.

Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
