Mexican Stock Exchange - Bolsa Mexicana de Valores
The Mexican Stock Exchange, Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (BMV), is the only stock exchange in the Mexican Stock Market. It is located in Mexico City and is a public company owned by its members. The exchange trades stocks, warrants, mutual funds and debt instruments (Federal Treasury certificates - CETES, Federal Government Development bonds - BONDES, Investment Unit bonds, Bankers acceptances, commercial paper...).
The Mexican Stock Exchange main index is a market capitalization weighted index called the IPC or Indice de Precios y Cotizaciones.
This item contains 155 ticker symbols of Mexican stocks listed on the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores. It also contains the company's titles and the yahoo-compatible stock names.
The Yahoo EOD historical quotes item can be used to download historical end-of-day quotes for these Mexican stocks. However, not all stock quotes can be retrieved; the yahoo ticker symbol is very often different from the original ticker symbol.
My first attempt was to append ".MX" to the stock symbols but only few of them were recognized by Yahoo; so I created a script that appends "A.MX" or "B.MX" if the stock ticker symbol was not available in the Yahoo database. In case a symbol is found, the script updates the "Name1" field of the stock and set it to the new ticker symbol. This resulted in a much better download success rate. Now, more than 60% of the Mexican stocks data are downloaded.
The Mexican Stock Exchange is the second largest stock exchange in Latin America. The first Latin America exchange is the Brazilian stock exchange. You can download a list of symbols for this market here Brazil Stock Market.
Some stocks listed on the Mexican Stock Exchange:
GOMO - GOMO.MX Grupo Comercial Gomo
GMD - GMD.MX - Grupo Mexicano de Desarrollo
CMR - CMRB.MX - Corporacion Mexicana de Restaurantes
AMX - AMXA.MX - America Movil
AHMSA - AHMSA.MX Altos Hornos de Mexico
Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
