Hi,
Need a little help with the Basic Watchlist.I understand what it does, but I do not sure what its limitations are.It appears the options for Symbols:Add a condition are fixed.

Where I am a bit confused is when I click on examples. It appears Search and Check are the 2 names that are applied. Is there any info on what can be checked/searched in the basic watchlist?

Where can one read so they understand the syntax and can set their own filters?

The lessons are pretty basic..

Thanks,

Allan

Hi,

The basic watchlist creates a watchlist from conditions applied to symbols in your database (Symbols Selection).
The "Symbols Selection" control is used in almost all other plug-ins (Simulator, Screener, Optimizer...)

You can add a condition by clicking on "Add a condition"

These conditions are applied to symbols (not historical data)

Example:
Industry of a symbol
Last close price (Automatically associated with a symbol when you download EOD data)

I understand the 3 Watchlists and the way they work,.I was wondering if you could program any condition you want, but it appears one cant in the Basic Watchlist.Only in the Dynamic Watchlist can you code any condition.

After working with the Basic Watchlist some more,it appears the options in the watchlist are "limited" by the 12 conditions,i.e group, market, sector. When you select a condition, you than have various options you can select. As an example if I add the quote condition,I have the option to select such fields as close, last day volume, avg 5 day volume. But I couldnt add avg 3 day volume as it is not a pre coded option. Is that correct?

Would you be please give a simple example using the And operator?I understand what it is,but it seems redundant unless I am using it incorrectly. If I add 3 conditions, isnt "and" automatically used?

Thanks,

Allan

Exactly.

Example:
Condition1: Stocks whose name start with "a"
Condition2: Stocks whose name start with "b"

You will get 0 stocks.

However, if you set the "AND" operator between these two conditions then you will get stocks whose name start with "a" and stocks whose name start "b".

I see the problem.

I typically use And/Or in trading rules. The And function is more restrictive than Or.

Buy =close<50 and RSI(14)<30 vs Buy =close<50 or RSI(14)<30.

The Or rule will have more stocks meeting the criteria than the And rule.

In the Basic Watchlist,it is the opposite.Or is more restrictive than And.

I now see what you are doing, but if I understand it,you do not really have an OR function. Its a little confusing, but I get it.

I understand your interpretation and I agree that it is a little confusing. We will fix that.

You need to select an intraday time frame and a real-time feed.
