This item downloads the CBEO S&P 500 BuyWrite Index, BXM, historical data. The BMX historical data available in the Chicago Board Options Exchange website contains only the close price numbers. This downloader gets also the open, high and low data.
The CBEO S&P 500 BuyWrite Index is a benchmark index, developed by the CBOE and the Standard & Poor's, which shows the hypothetical performance of a portfolio that uses a buy-write strategy.
The BXM buy-write strategy buys the S&P 500 stock index and then sells or writes the near-term S&P 500 Index call option. It is a Covered Call strategy because it holds an S&P 500 long position and at the same time writes a call option on the same asset (S&P 500).
To create a portfolio with the same performance as the BXM Index, you can invest in stocks and SPX options (and create a covered call strategy) or you can trade the PowerShares S&P 500 BuyWrite Fund. This fund invests at least 80% of its assets in the 500 companies that are part of the S&P 500 Index and then writes call options.
The historical data spans from April 2002, which is the month in which the BXM index was created, to present. The CBEO S&P 500 BuyWrite Index symbol name is ^CBOE_S&P_500_BUYWRITE.
Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
