This object will do a full download of the historical analyst buy and sell recommendations available on yahoo, and store in a local database (yahoo_analyst_ratings). The rating firm, upgrade/downgrade indicator, the past rating and the current rating are all stored. In addition, the downloader contains a function that attempts to map the ratings provided by various firms to a standard numeric score between 5 and 1, where 5 is a strong buy and 1 is a strong sell.
Please note that the mapping to numeric values was not done very scientifically. If you have suggestions for a better mapping I would be happy to update the function to incorporate them. Also the analysts don't use consistent language so over time the mappings will need to be updated to address new discrepancies.
The database is an inter-day database to handle the case where multiple firms report on the same day. In that case, each rating will be stored in the database, recorded one millisecond apart after midnight on the day.
If you find a successful way to incorporate this data into your trading algorithm, I'd love to hear any insights you could provide.

Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
