Number of Stocks Making a new 52-Week High - Market Indicator
This item creates a 52-week high symbol from all stocks available in your database. The market indicator is created using the composite plug-in and it can be applied to any stock market. It uses the "hhv" (highest value over a period) indicator to count the number of stocks that are making a new 52-week high each day. The newly created symbol name is "_52Week_High".
A stock is making a new 52-week high if its close price is equal to its highest close price over the last 250 trading days.
It is possible to update this 52-week high market indicator to include specific stocks. For example, stocks that are listed on a specific market or stocks belonging to a specific industry or sector or stocks whose price is above a certain threshold.
In order to do this, you should update the composite and set a value to the "filter" variable.
For example, to ignore stocks whose average volume for the year is lower than 1000 shares, you can type:
filter = sma(volume, 50) >= 1000;
You can get ready-to-use 52-week high and 52-week low data for the main U.S. exchanges (NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX) by using the following downloader: NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ 52-week high and low data.
Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
