I just got a trial account, and so far I'm having trouble downloading an up-to-date list of symbols for US stock exchange.

The US stock exchange downloader is even described as having ~9400 symbols, but the one I have only lists ~8200 symbols. Even when I run the downloader,
the number of symbols does not update. New historical data for the symbols already contained is added, but I'm still lacking a comprehensive list of symbols.

How do I fix this?

Hi Sam,

You can import your own list of symbols. Here is a link where you get all U.S. Symbols: http://bsym.bloomberg.com/sym/

Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
