Mergers and acquisitions or M&A, is about companies buying, selling, or merging with other companies.
The process of merging generally benefit both companies and thus improve theirs growth or/and profitability.
Acquisition is when one company takes the control of another one by buying shares of the targeted company.
This downloader downloads the recent mergers and acquisitions data.
The data comes from streetinsider.com. It is an RSS feed. The downloader parses the feed and inserts the parsed data into a custom database whose name is 'mergers'.
There are three columns: date, title and link.
You can of course refer to this data using the QuantShare formula; you can create trading rules, composites...
A cool composite would be: the number of mergers and acquisitions transactions for every trading day. I guess not a lot of people thought about this kind of indicator before :)
Stock symbols involved in recent mergers and acquisitions could also be tracked by the watchlist. Just create a dynamic watchlist and set the formula to:
filter = hhv(GetDataCount('mergers', 'link'), 10) > 0;
This formula will let you track the symbols that are engaged in mergers and acquisitions transactions for the last ten bars.
Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
