Buy/Short a Fixed Number of Shares

Here is a very simple money management script that shows you how to buy a fixed number of shares instead of a number of shares determined by the available cash (default money management sizing method).

In order to use this script, simply add it to your trading system. Later, when selecting your trading system, you can type the number of shares to buy or short for each new position.

How it works:

As I said earlier, this is very basic money management script. It consists of catching new trades using the "OnNewPosition" event.

Each time a new trade is detected, we simply update the number of shares to buy/short using the "Functions.UpdateNumberOfShares" function.

The fixed number of shares is obtained from a variable initialized in the "OnStartSimulation" event. We set up this variable in the "OnStartSimulation" event using the "Functions.SetNumericInput" function in order to be able to update it dynamically when selecting the trading system.

Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
