Here is a list of ticker symbols for the Major World Indices. It contains more than 25 indexes from five different continents.

It includes the following stock indexes for Americas:

Major Stock indices for Africa/Middle East:
CMA.CA: Egypt CMA General Index
^TA100: TA-100 Index, as referred to as Tel Aviv 100

Historical data for Major World Stock Indices is a trading item I have created to download EOD data for all these indices.

For specific country indices:
TSX indices - S&P/TSX composite index downloads EOD data for several stock indices for the Canadian stock market.
The US Indices downloads the major U.S. indices, including the Down Jones Industrial Average, the NASDAQ Composite, the S&P 500 and the Russell 2000.
NSE Nifty - S&P CNX Nifty gets the major stock indices of the National Stock Exchange of India.
BSE Sensex gets the main indices of the Bombay Stock Exchange.
