How to plot put/call ratio of individual stocks

Updated on 2011-03-26

The put/call ratio is a sentiment indicator that is measured by dividing the put options volume by the call options volume.

Put/call ratios that measure the general market sentiment such as the one developed by the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) are widely available. It is not the case with the put/call volume ratio of individual stocks.

The following steps will show you how to get this data and create a chart that displays the put/call ratio of your favorite stocks.

Steps:
- Download and install the following trading item: Individual Stocks Put and Call Volume
- Run it to download put and call volume data for U.S. Stocks
- Download and install the trading indicator: Put/Call Ratio for Individual Stocks
- Create a chart with two panes (Right click then "Create new pane")
- In the second pane, click on "Add Indicator" (first icon)
- Select "All Indicators" tab
- In the Search box, type: putcall
- Click on "OK".

Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
